More than a thousand Northwest Washington residents were without power overnight after a tree fell and caused power lines to go down.

The tree fell on River Road at about 9 p.m., knocking out power to about 1,200 Pepco customers.

By 8 a.m. Thursday, power had been restored to all but a handful of customers. The cleanup, though, closed River Road west of Wisconsin Avenue for several hours.
