Washington Monument sparkles at night during renovations
The Washington Monument is getting a makeover.
The scaffolding—all 555 feet—is being covered in fabric and lights. A similar presentation was done when the monument underwent its last repair job in 1999 and 2000.
In the coming months, crews will be repairing the cracks from the August 2011 earthquake. So, while they are working on the tallest building in D.C., it is producing something aesthetically pleasing. At last check, the lights were just turned off, but, they should be on again by the end of the month.
The National Park Service expects the scaffolding to be down and the monument to be reopened by the spring of 2014.
