World's largest snakehead possibly caught in Stafford County
A 27-year-old Spotsylvania County man may have have hooked himself a world record. Literally.
The Free Lance-Star reports that Caleb Newton caught an enormous snakehead this past weekend. The fish weighed in at 17 pounds, 6 ounces; if verified, it would beat the previous record catch of a snakehead by two ounces.
That previous record holder was caught nearly a decade ago in southern Japan. This one, the Free Lance-Star reports, was caught in Aquia Creek in Stafford County.
Newton and his friend told the Free Lance-Star that it took them about a minute to get the 36-inch-long snakehead into their boat.
