7-year-old attacked: Police in Upper Marlboro continue search
To many in Marlton in Upper Marlboro, the face peering out from the police sketch looks familiar and a little frightening.
The image being passed out by police of the older white man with a salt and pepper goatee and tongue piercing was created based on the description of the 7-year-old girl who was brutally attacked on this path off Heathermore Boulevard in Marlton two Saturdays ago.
Detectives want as many people as possible to see it so they are knocking on doors and stopping cars to ask for help. Dozens of fliers paper cars in parking lots. Police want to catch the man before he strikes again.
“It’s obviously not clear what this person is capable of and that's why we're working so hard,” says Julie Parker, Prince George’s County Police spokeswoman.
There is so much fear here that Melody Parrish had an alarm system installed in her home and she's noticed something.
“I'm used to seeing the kids here in the neighborhood,” she says. “They’re always outside playing hopscotch on the sidewalk and riding their bikes and now it’s just quiet.”
She lives just steps from the actual crime scene where today police concentrated their effort. Her neighbor Angela Jones Warner hopes it makes a difference.
“And I feel really sorry for the little girl because no one should have to go through that,” she says. “And it makes me sick.”
