Bethesda Baptist Church prays for 7-year-old Michael Kingsbury
Members of nearby Bethesda Baptist came out to pray Tuesday night for 7-year-old Michael Kingsbury's family and for a community in shock.
Many still don’t know what happened, but police are starting to reveal new details. They say that officers first arrived at the Kingsbury apartment Sunday morning around 10 a.m. At 1:30 p.m., an officer looked into the car Michael Kingsbury was ultimately found dead in – and saw nothing. Three more officers looked over the course of the next morning – and also saw nothing.
It wasn't until 5:50 p.m. Monday afternoon that a detective finally discovered Kingsbury dead in the car, though he wasn’t initially convinced that it was a body that was in there.
Police are now trying to figure out whether Kingsbury was in the car the whole time or somehow wound up in there later; at this point, the case is a death and not a homicide, though police confirm that they will not rule out anything at this point.
In response to those saying that the police did not do enough to locate the missing boy, officers have defended their handling of the case, but also say they will do an internal investigation of their search.
