D.C. parking ticket problems: City responds to Parkmobile App issues
It started with a trip to the Smithsonian and two hours of parking at a D.C. meter.
But it ended with Christen Eliason getting a ticket despite using her Parkmobile App to pay for parking. The ticket was given to her at 3:28 p.m. even though her parking would have expired a little after 4 p.m.
She challenged the ticket, sending the DMV a receipt clearly showing the ticket was an error.
The DMV, however, said Eliason "had not provided sufficient evidence for the ticket to be dismissed." The letter then asks for the document she'd already submitted within 10 days.
And on page two of the "hearing record," it says, "please send payment for the ticket along with a $10 appeal fee."
The DMV then denied the appeal because she paid the ticket.
But after last week's 7 On Your Side report questioning the fairness of some DMV’s ticket adjudications, the agency agreed to review the ticket.
And guess what? The city determined: "...the ticket was written in error and we are going to void it."
Eliason is getting a refund.
