Franconia assault suspects sought
FRANCONIA, Va. (WJLA) -- Fairfax County police are investigating two incidents Tuesday in which a man allegedly inappropriately touched a woman in the Franconia/Springfield area. Police are investigating whether the two cases, which happened about three hours apart, are related.
The first one happened around 10:15 a.m. in the Franconia area. Police say a 30-year old woman was walking in the Amberleigh neighborhood near the intersection of Crestleigh Way and Briarleigh Way when a man came up and inappropriately touched her. He then fled.
The second incident happened several miles away around 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of Backlick Road and Highland Street in Springfield. Police say a man grabbed a 23-year old woman from behind and then ran away.
"It's very scary," said nearby resident Ada Beltran. "Because I can't even walk around here. You never know what's going to happen."
The Backlick Road incident was very close to where the so-called Springfield Groper allegedly committed many of his at least two dozen crimes. But Fairfax County police say they don't think the Springfield Groper was involved in either of Tuesday's crimes.
The suspect in Tuesday's first incident is described as either white or Hispanic and between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet. He appeared to be in his late 20s and was wearing a white shirt and light colored pants.
In the second incident, the suspect is described as Hispanic, 5 foot 8 inches tall, and skinny. He was wearing a black shirt and black jeans shorts.
