A 21-year-old man was arrested on child porn charges in Woodbridge after he fell for an internet virus that claimed he needed to pay a fine for looking at child pornography, police say.

Prince William County Police arrested Jay Matthew Riley on Tuesday and charged him with multiple child pornography-related charges.

Police say Riley went to a local police station to ask if he had any outstanding warrants for child pornography-related offenses. He told police he received an “FBI Warning” on his computer that said he needed to pay a fine or he would be investigated.

Riley voluntarily turned over his computer. Authorities searched it and found inappropriate messages and photos, including from a 13-year-old Minnesota girl, police say.

The “FBI Warning” was a virus.

ABC7 went to Riley's home and knocked on the door but no one answered.

"We've never had a case like this, I'm safe to say that,” says Prince William County Police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok. “But the nature of what we have here is quite significant and severe."
