Lawmakers want raises for unskilled federal workers
A group of more than a dozen lawmakers tackling the widening income gap in America wants the government to start addressing the problem in their own house, Federal News Radio says.
In a letter to President Barack Obama, 17 Democrats in the House of Representatives are pushing for unskilled workers have their pay increased.
Many of these service employees are working at highly-visible places in Washington, including Smithsonian museums and the National Zoo. The letter, which was obtained by Federal News Radio, says that 2 million federal workers make less than $24,000 per year.
The group says that the government contracts more low-wage workers than any other private company in America.
