A new plan at Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport will pave the way for more overseas flights and shorter lines, WTOP reports.

The addition of gates at Concourse D and E will allow more airline carriers to offer international travel, which jumped 21 percent last year.

The project will cost $125 million over three years. Airline ticket fees will fund $100 million while $25 million will be funded through the Transportation Infrastructure and Investment Act of 2013.

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley supports the plan, saying it will add hundreds of jobs and "increase travel, trade and business development."

The Board of Public Works will consider the first of the contracts later this month.
