Eric Leeper, Anthony Chase killed in in Southeast shooting
Two men were killed and another was injured late Wednesday when when they were shot just south of East Capitol Street in Southeast.
Police say they were called to Ridge Road Southeast near C Street around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday . When they arrived they found 27-year-old Eric Leeper shot in the upper body. Authorities say he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police also found two other men shot in the less than a block away near Ridge Road and 37th Street SE. One was shot in the upper body, another was shot in the arm and leg.
One of these two men, 19-year-old Anthony Chase, later died from his injuries.
"Right now, we're really reaching out to the public to anybody that saw or heard anything about this case," says MPD Commander George Kucik. He also tells ABC7 that the number of D.C. homicides is at 48 -- the same as it was one year ago. Meanwhile, summertime shooting deaths are up in east Washington. In the Sixth district, the number jumped from two last summer to seven so far this summer; in the Seventh district, it went from two to four.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
