The crash occurred after a police officer tried to pull over an SUV for a traffic violation. Police say the vehicle sped away, and shortly thereafter, it ran off the road and overturned. It struck a utility pole, a tree, a fire hydrant and a pole support cable.
Both Johnson and Pollard were ejected. Johnson died at the scene, and Pollard was taken to a hospital.
