Va. man dies while swimming in Potomac near Harpers Ferry
HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. (AP) - Authorities have recovered the body of a Virginia man who died while swimming in the Potomac River near Harpers Ferry.
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police tells media outlets that 25-year-old Joshua Carr of Hamilton, Va., was swept downstream by a strong current and went beneath the water's surface.
Carr was swimming with 22-year-old Jennifer Furselle of Purcellville, Va., when they encountered the current. Furselle tried unsuccessfully to help Carr. She then swam toward the shore and called out for help.
The accident occurred Friday afternoon. Carr's body was recovered Saturday afternoon.
The investigation is continuing.
