Rudd stopped for gas in Ohio early Saturday morning while driving back from visiting his parents in Iowa, and was shot in the face by two men. He was reportedly a half-inch from losing his life -- his jaw stopped the bullet.

Worried co-workers received the news on Monday, and were wondering where Rudd was because he was supposed to be back into work on Saturday. The 80-member staff was shocked to learn that Rudd had only made it to a truck stop in Madison County, OH before being accosted by two teens suspected in a weeklong crime spree in the state. According to authorities, Rudd was their final victim.

18-year-old Nathaniel Brunner and 17-year-old Devonere Simmonds have been charged with shooting Rudd in the face and stealing his car. Later that evening, an off-duty Dayton police officer caught the two sleeping in Rudd’s stolen car and arrested them.

Rudd reportedly remains in serious condition after being taken out of an downtown Columbus intensive care unit. His jaw remains wired shut.
