Jason Schneider dies: Baltimore County Police officer shot in line of duty
A 13-year veteran of the Baltimore County Police force died early Wednesday morning after being shot while serving a warrant.
Authorities say that Ofc. Jason Schneider, 36, died from injuries sustained in the line of duty.
Schneider and the suspect sought by the warrant were both shot in an exchange of fire on Roberts Avenue in Catonsville, just hours after receiving a report that the man they were after had shot a man nearby.
When Schneider and another officer entered the home during the execution of the warrant, gunfire erupted. The other officer, who officials say discharged his weapon, has been placed on routine administrative leave.
"This is a terrible loss for Baltimore County," Baltimore County Police Chief James Johnson said. "His noble work is greatly appreciated, and his bravery and role in the great human experience brought us here today."
Schneider had served on Baltimore County's tactical unit since 2004.
