Defense Department furlough appeals stopped due to high volume
The agency that processes and makes decisions on Department of Defense employees who have appealed their furloughs has indefinitely delayed the process thanks to an enormous backlog.
Government Executive reports that the Merit Systems Protection Board needs more time to figure out how to handle the deluge of appeals, which has surpassed 30,000 since the beginning of sequestration.
According to a statement on its website, the board will work during its self-imposed delay to get "a better understanding of the claims being raised," among other things.
The MSPB has already docketed more than 10,000 appeals this fiscal year.
