EPA Aug. 30 furlough day canceled
Furlough days continue to fall at numerous government agencies, with the latest one to be dropped at the Environmental Protection Agency.
As reported by Federal News Radio, EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy told employees in a video message that an employee furlough day scheduled for Aug. 30 had been called off.
"We have been able to save enough money to reduce each employee's furlough time by eight hour," McCarthy said in her video.
EPA employees were originally supposed to be furloughed for 59 hours over two phases, Federal News Radio says. During the first phase, employees missed 32 hours of the originally planned 47 and, during the more recent phase, the EPA was able to cut planned furlough hours from 32 to 15.
