Federal travel spending down 17 percent in 2013
The amount of spending on travel among federal employees has sharply dropped year-to-date in 2013, Federal Times reports, to the tune of $1.3 million.
The 17 percent drop in federal spending on travel is compounded by the 6 percent drop that happened between 2011 and 2012, according to the government's SmartPay program.
Travel spending is traced by the GSA through SmartPay cards issued to federal agencies and employees.
The drop in travel spending comes on the heels of a May 2012 order by the Office of Management and Budget to reduce travel spending by 30 percent through 2016.
