Joe Biden: Syrian regime used chemical weapons
WASHINGTON (WJLA) -- There were some strong words from the Secretary of State on Monday, and there are now even stronger words from the Vice President today.
Joe Biden spoke at an American Legion event in Texas on Tuesday, and said: "There is no doubt who is responsible for this heinous use of chemical weapons in Syria -- the Syrian regime."
The Syrian government denies this, but Biden believes there is proof, saying: "For we know that the Syrian regime are the only ones who have the weapons."
The White House says the President is still deciding what to do about last week's alleged chemical weapons attack against Syrian rebels, but many expect some kind of military response in the coming days. Some in Congress are even pushing the use of cruise missiles.
However, polls show that Americans are wary about getting involved, and this was the general attitude among locals and tourists on the Mall today.
"We're still cleaning up the mess in Iraq and Afghanistan, he just got back from Iraq -- that needs to be cleaned up prior to this," said Rema Medina, visiting from Albuquerque, NM.
"I've seen pictures of people writhing on the ground and it's a horrible thing to look at -- but then again, what do you do?" said Joseph Chappelle from New York.
"The President, the Secretary of Defense, they have tough choices among several bad options; I hope that our leaders make the right decision," added GWU student and military member, Doug DeVore.
