During Wednesday's celebration of the anniversary of the March on Washington, the federal government is encouraging employees to telework.

Officials are hoping to ease travel delays caused by Wednesday's ceremonies.

Several major roads will be closed around the National Mall and throughout Washington during the morning commute and into the late afternoon Wednesday, making travel throughout the area difficult.

"Due to the increase in traffic, road closures, and related commuting disruptions on this day, Federal employees who work in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area should expect significant commuting delays and travel disruptions," OPM Acting Director Elaine Kaplan told federal employees in an Aug. 23 memo.

Agencies in D.C. will remain open but employees are being told to expect significant commuting delays and travel disruptions.
