The pit bull, named Buster, was found in an alley in the 300 block of 54th Street NE on July 23. He was suffering from four bullet wounds to the face and chest.

Officials say the dog was likely shot the night before with a .380 caliber handgun, leaving him injured and undiscovered for over 15 hours. Because of the severity of his injuries, Buster was euthanized.

The Washington Humane Society is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.

Anyone with information is urged to call 202-723-5730.
