Robbers attempt to steal ATMs in Prince George's County
CAMP SPRINGS, Md. (WJLA) - A pair of suspects are being sought after they allegedly tried to steal ATMs from two Prince George's County gas stations Wednesday morning.
It happened just after 5 a.m. on Old Branch Avenue in Camp Springs. Police say two men drove into the Citgo gas station store in an attempt to get at the ATM. An alarm sent police racing to the scene where they found the truck and the bandits smashing the backside of the gas station. Still, the robbers managed to get away on foot.
Earlier in the morning, police say the same men attempted to take another ATM from Allentown Road near Andrews Air Force Base. The suspects wrapped a chain around that ATM, undaunted by the camera above or the employee inside, but were unsuccessful at taking it as it was bolted to the ground.
Police are still looking for the two men involved in the incidents.
On Aug. 3, two suspects drove their truck into the convenience store of an Exxon on Indian Head Highway near Fort Washington Road in Fort Washington. They got away with the ATM in that robbery.
Less than four hours later, the suspects struck again, this time at an Exxon on Benning Road in Northeast D.C. Both of the ATMs were later recovered.
Two days prior, someone drove a truck into an ATM at an Xtra Fuels station on Crain Highway and stole it.
Here's a look at the five recent ATM thefts - some successful and some that were not. Police have not said whether or not all five are connected.
