A planned entertainment complex set to be developed by a group that includes the son of D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray is drawing opposition from the park's neighbors and local law enforcement, The Washington Post reported.
The site, dubbed "Riverfront at the Ballpark" by developers Dos Ventures LLP, will occupy the six-acre site immediately south of Nationals Park that formerly housed Florida Rock Industries. Documents submitted by the Alcohol Beverage Control Board by the developers list lawn games, live performances, "pop-up" food vendors and "festival-like" programming as uses for the site.
Carlos Gray, the mayor's son, is listed as "DCRA/planning consultant" on forms provided to the liquor board.
The site's 12,200 person capacity would make it the largest liquor-licensed facility in the city, a fact that has drawn the concern of Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier.
