WASHINGTON (WJLA) -- It was easy to see that the First Lady was extremely popular with the kids at Anacostia’s Orr Elementary, where she was joined by basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal to promote her anti-obesity campaign.

Michelle Obama ran, skipped, and kept up with students to promote her health initiative, “Let’s Move!” – a campaign that is now three-and-a-half years old.

"So make no mistake about it, we are changing the conversation in this country," she said.

Michelle Obama also spoke to a range of school staffers, explaining that one reason she came to Orr was that D.C. public schools – all 111 of them – have been signed on by the Chancellor as 'active' schools. This means healthier food and more exercise is included during the school day beyond recess.

The First Lady’s use of Shaquille O’Neal was criticized by some, since his face is on the can of a soda brand. But the children seemed to love the surprise visit from the basketball star.

"It was amazing! It was fun watching and exercising with them," said 8-year-old student Jaqiah Johnson."
