In Breaking Bad Brian Cranston plays a high school science teacher dying of cancer who turns to cooking meth to leave his family a fortune. The show has buzz and won best drama and best supporting actress.

But Jeff Daniels of HBO's The Newsroom denied Cranston best actor. Cranston got robbed.

Claire Danes won best dramatic actress for Homeland, a series that has lost its buzz. I think Scandal's Kerry Washington got robbed.

Modern Family won best comedy series for the fourth year in a row, the show captures the change and diversity of our world today.

Julia Louis-Dryfuss and Tony Hale won comedy acting honors for HBO's for Veep, the Washington show shot in Baltimore that makes politics funny.

Stephen Colbert won the variety series award, ending Jon Stewart's 10-year winning streak. The comedy torch has passed.

As awards shows go, this year's Emmys felt dull and derivative.

So at 9 p.m., I watched Breaking bad.
