Arthur Daniels, 51, killed in Navy Yard shooting
WASHINGTON (WJLA) - The anguish is gut-wrenching for Priscilla Daniels and her family.
Her husband of 30 years, Arthur Daniels, is gone.
Daniels was working Monday at the Navy Yard, moving and installing office furniture.
He had a regular routine.
“He get up every morning at 5, iron his clothes. He goes to work. He always calls home,” says Priscilla Daniels.
But Monday, Arthur didn't call. The family waited frantically and prayed, and finally, his supervisor called with the devastating news.
“I said where's ‘my husband?’ He said 'your husband got shot in the back.' And I said what? And I just screamed,” says Priscilla Daniels.
Daniels had been shot in the back while running down the hallway of Building 197, trying to escape the gunman, identified as Aaron Alexis, 34.
The father of five - one son was shot to death as a teenager - and the grandfather of nine, Daniels was born in North Carolina, moved here when he was two.
He loved cooking, dancing to James Brown, his family.
Now that family gathers in his Southeast D.C. flat, consoling each other and trying to make sense of the senseless.
