The accident happened just after 8:30 a.m. at a home in the 5700 block of Bent Branch Road, where a group of workers were building a large home. Officials say that the victim, a 41-year-old man who works for Castlewood Builders, was operating the excavator when it tipped over.

At that point, the worker became pinned between the machine and the side of the house.

A pair of the victim's coworkers suffered minor injuries when they punched out the glass window of the excavator in an attempt to save the man.

Authorities believe that the man's death was a freak accident. Castlewood Builders officials could not be reached for comment.
