Eleanor Holmes Norton unsure of support for strikes against Syria
WASHINGTON (AP) - The District of Columbia's delegate to Congress says a congressional debate is needed to answer whether a military strike is the right course of action in Syria.
Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton says she believes there needs to be some response to the apparent use of chemical weapons. But she says the U.S. is already spread too thin around the world. She said she hasn't decided whether military action would be effective.
Norton says Secretary of State John Kerry's statements laying out evidence of the use of chemical weapons have come close to relieving her fear that the U.S. could "stumble into another Iraq 'weapons of mass destruction' debacle."
Norton says Congress should reconvene Tuesday for a two-day debate and vote. But Congress is not due to reconvene until Sept. 9.
