WASHINGTON (AP) - The historic main building of the Library of Congress was evacuated after a water alarm went off.

U.S. Capitol Police Lt. Kimberly Schneider says the water alarm went off in the Thomas Jefferson building Tuesday night. The Washington Post reports it was not immediately clear what triggered the alarm and no information was available about any damage.

In addition to its book collection, the building completed in 1897 houses artistic, historic and cultural treasures. The building is located across the street from the U.S. Capitol.
