An Anne Arundel County man suffered life-threatening injuries Thursday when he and a fellow motorcycle rider crashed into a horse and buggy in St. Mary's County.

The crash happened at about 3:45 p.m. Thursday on Route 6 near Culver Lane in Charlotte Hall, where 52-year-old Donald Lee Fridell Jr. and 81-year-old Lawrence Francis Jones were riding their motorcycles.

St. Mary's County Sheriff's officials say that as the driver of an Amish Horse and Buggy attempted to to turn onto Culver Lane, she drove into the path of the two motorcyclists.

Fridell was thrown from his motorcycle in the crash, while Jones was able to engage his rear brakes and fall to the ground. Fridell was found unconscious in a ditch and was airlifted to Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore.

Jones suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation, but sheriff's officials say that they don't believe speed, alcohol or drugs contributed to the incident.
