Redskins legends roast Joe Gibbs for charity
WASHINGTON (WJLA) - A Who's Who of Redskins legends came together to honor their coach, Joe Gibbs, in a special night for one of the men most responsible for Washington's three Super Bowl titles.
Redskins greats who've traded cleats for wingtips got together to roast Gibbs.
"Trying to roast Joe Gibbs is like trying to roast Jesus in the Holy Land," says Jeff Bostic, former offensive lineman.
"Like Gomer Pyle says, 'surprise, surprise, surprise," says Doug Williams.
"I didn't know i was getting into this," Gibbs says. "This is not what i was told when I was called, ok. I'm not sure what I got into, but I think its too late to get out."
Joe Theisman said he'd rib the coach about sleeping at the facility three nights a week.
"He would walk out of his office, which was his bedroom, with a cup of coffee in his hand ... he'd see me walking down the hallway and say 'oh, god not now."
The roast was a fundraiser for DC College Access Program, which enables D.C. public school kids to enroll in college.
