(WJLA) - A 4-month-old boy is in critical condition after being injured Wednesday night in a possibly alcohol-related car crash in Anne Arundel County, authorities say.

The crash happened just after 6 p.m. on Clar Road near Youse Avenue in Jessup, Anne Arundel County Police officials say. The infant boy was not sitting in a child safety seat at the time of the head-on collision.

Instead, police believe that the child was sitting in the lap of someone sitting in the front seat of the car. He was taken to Johns Hopkins Children's Center with life-threatening injuries.

Officials say that the van that the child and two adults were riding in crossed the median and collided head on with another car headed in the opposite direction. The two adults in the van, 30-year-old Dale Mitchell and 29-year-old Glen Scott Price, suffered minor injuries.

Mitchell, the father of the injured boy, was behind the wheel at the time of the crash and showed signs of alcohol use.

The two people in the other car are in stable condition.
