Bacon is bad for male fertility, sperm quality, study says
(WJLA) - It's one of the world's most beloved breakfast foods. And lunch foods. And dinner foods.
It's also apparently bad for male fertility, according to a new study.
Bacon and other processed meats, such as hamburgers and hot dogs, are believed to make sperm quality in men lower when eaten in high quantities, a Harvard School of Public Health study indicates.
The study's authors conclude that processed meat consumption can decrease a man's sperm quality by about 1.4 percent on average, especially as compared to a person whose diet includes both dark and light-meat fish.
According to the New York Daily News, the researchers surveyed 156 men as part of their survey, which revealed that eating processed meats has a negative effect on "sperm morphology."
