Healthcare.gov website crashes due to overwhelming response

WOODBRIDGE, Va. (WJLA) - In Woodbridge on Wednesday, patient care providers were busy meeting with Prince William County residents, who were eager to sign up for the new health care exchange. Facilitators like Blanca Castillo were on-site to help.

Castillo is the Patient Care Coordinator with the Greater Prince William Community Health Center.

"It's not so complicated," she says. "It is an easy process once you get into the website -- once the website is working and can you get on it."

But on Wednesday – just like Tuesday – healthcare.gov was overwhelmed once again, and did not let users log on. So Castillo went back to filling out paper forms.

Still, Woodbridge resident Catherine Brooks insists that she is grateful to have this option after losing her job. She is not surprised or annoyed the system got overloaded.

Due to the computer glitch, Brooks says she will be back to finish up her enrollment. And Castillo says that while she’s frustrated with the computer crashing, this is what one couple told her yesterday after years of not being able to afford insurance due to both having diabetes:

"We're not going to have immediate coverage. We have to wait a couple of months...We have waited many years with this that is killing us. Now we have hope."
