John Otha Dickens, Jr. accused of assault, shot by deputies
Police say a man who was shot by a St. Mary's County Sheriff's deputy Monday morning had returned to assault a woman and a child.
Police say John Otha Dickens, Jr. first assaulted the victim inside a Lexington Park home on Bristol Avenue Sunday. He was charged with assault and later released on a $7,500 bond and ordered to have no contact with the victim.
The next morning, Dickens allegedly returned to the home around 6:30 a.m. and assaulted the same woman with a knife and threatened her with a gun. Police say Dickens also assaulted a 5-year-old child with a knife.
When deputies responded, they heard screams from an upstairs bedroom. Dickens allegedly refused to stop assaulting the victim and was shot by Sheriff's deputies.
Dickens was treated at Prince George's Hospital Center and later charged with first and second-degree assault. He was again released on a $5,000 bond.
