Lockheed Martin to furlough 2,400 workers due to government shutdown
(WJLA) - Lockheed Martin, the massive Bethesda-based government contractor, says it'll cut back on the number of furloughs it anticipates issuing during the government shutdown.
The Wall Street Journal reports that the company still plans to furlough 2,400 staff members, a 20 percent decrease from the 3,000 workers the company estimated it would have to furlough last Friday.
Furloughs would only impact a small fraction of the 120,000 employees Lockheed Martin has nationwide. Officials told the Wall Street Journal says that a majority of those furloughed were civilians.
