Maryland Zoo's lion Badu dies
BALTIMORE (AP) - The Maryland Zoo says a female lion named Badu has died just days after giving birth to twins.
The zoo announced Thursday that Badu gave birth to the cubs after going into labor Oct. 3. But veterinarians later noticed she was having complications. The zoo says veterinarians removed two other cubs surgically from their mother but neither survived and Badu later died.
The zoo says the cubs, one male and one female, appear healthy. They are the first lion cubs to be born at the Maryland Zoo.
The cubs' father, Hassan, and a female lion, Cuma, are on exhibit for the public to see. The cubs are off exhibit for now.
The cubs' mother came to the Maryland Zoo last year from the Racine Zoo in Racine, Wis.
