McAuliffe leads in polls amid shutdown, POLITICO reports
As the nation enters the second week of the government shutdown, POLITICO is reporting that Democrat Terry McAuliffe is nine points ahead of opponent Ken Cuccinelli in a race that also includes Libertarian nominee, Robert Sarvis.
The poll, conducted by Democratic firm Public Policy Polling and Republican firm Harper Polling, is the first to survey the impact of the government shutdown on the Virginia gubernatorial race.
Though both candidates have spoken out against the shutdown, Virginia voters who oppose the shutdown support McAuliffe 64-percent to 16-percent, while shutdown supporters prefer Cuccinelli over McAuliffe, 73-percent to 10-percent.
