(WJLA) - Investigators are trying to figure out what caused a freon leak at MedStar Washington Hospital Center that killed a longtime worker at the facility.
Melvin Lewis, an engineer of 15 years at the Northwest Washington hospital, died Sunday afternoon after being overcome by fumes while working on the leak.
The leak from an air conditioner was found in a room near the hospital's auditorium on Sunday. While responding to the service request, both Lewis and another worker were overcome by fumes.
Lewis passed away after being taken to the hospital's emergency room. The other worker is expected to completely recover and will likely be released soon.
