Mohammed Niazi sentenced to 5 years for GWU hammer attack
A 46-year-old man from the U.K. is sentenced to five years in prison after he attacked a George Washington University student with a hammer in 2009.
A judge sentenced Mohammed Niazi, who was earlier convicted of assault with a deadly weapon and other charges.
Authorities say Niazi in October 2009 went into a bathroom in Duques Hall, a building on the George Washington University campus in northwest D.C.
He then attacked a student with a hammer.
The day after the attack, Niazi fled the U.S. but was apprehended in Panama.
