Montgomery County cracks down on handheld cell phone use in cars

Montgomery County's police force is not messing around this month when it comes to cell phone violations.

The Washington Post reports that Montgomery County Police officers issued 202 tickets and more than 100 more warnings to drivers they've caught either talking on a handheld cell phone between Oct. 1 and 17.

Oct. 1 was the date that holding your phone in your hand to make a call became a primary offense in Maryland. It has already been a primary offense to text message while driving in Maryland for more than a year.
