New Prince George's County hospital to cost $655 million
(WJLA) - Prince George's County's new hospital will cost more than $650 million to construct and complete and have fewer beds than originally anticipated, the Washington Business Journal reports.
The new facility, which is slated to open in Largo in January of 2018, will have space for 231 beds and will be completed at a cost of $655 million. That's about 30 beds fewer and $10 million more than previous public projections, the Business Journal reports.
Officials announced in late August that the new hospital center would be built on 70 acres of county-owned land near the Largo Town Center Metro station. Bond funding will finance about $450 million of the facility, while the rest will be covered by the county and the State of Maryland.
The hospital will replace the aging and financially-troubled Prince George's Hospital Center in Cheverly.
The reasons for the decline in hospital bed capacity were not disclosed, the Business Journal says.
