A University of Texas student organization's controversial game is stirring up enough controversy to affect the state's gubernatorial race, according to a report from ABC News.
The game, organized by the Young Conservatives of Texas student organization, is called "Catch an Illegal Immigrant." Just like the name implies, the game involves participants seeking out other players wearing "illegal immigrant" pins. Once caught, pin-wearers can be "turned in" for a $25 reward.
The game's organizer, club chairman Lorenzo Garcia, said the game is intended to "spark a campus-wide discussion about the issue of illegal immigration." Garcia is a former paid employee of Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott’s gubernatorial campaign, but that campaign has now released a statement denouncing the game.
