Adam Kokesh pleads guilty to weapon, drug charges
WASHINGTON (WJLA) - A Libertarian activist facing drug and weapons charges after he posted a video of himself loading a shotgun on Freedom Plaza has pleaded guilty in D.C. Wednesday.
Adam Kokesh pleaded guilty to marijuana possession and weapons charges. He's scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 17.
The gun charges stem from Kokesh's video post. His marijuana charge are connected to a July 8 incident where he was spotted with a marijuana cigarette, authorities say.
He was arrested in July at his home on Herndon after he posted the video of himself loading a gun, which was part of a campaign to push people to carry loaded firearms in the District.
It’s against the law to carry a loaded weapon in D.C.
“Every day, federal and local law enforcement officers put their lives on the line to protect national government facilities, national landmarks, and public servants working in our city from ongoing threats to our security,” said U.S. Attorney Ron Machen. “Their jobs are hard enough without irresponsible people intentionally coming into the District of Columbia to brandish a loaded shotgun in the heart of the nation’s capital."
Kokesh, who has been in custody, is set to be released Wednesday.
