Body recovered from Potomac River not yet identified

Police are working to identify a woman whose body was recovered from the Potomac River near the Watergate building and Kennedy Center Friday afternoon.

D.C. Harbor Police responded to the area across from the 2600 block of Virginia Avenue around 2 p.m. for reports of a body in the water. The woman was pronounced dead on scene.

Police say the woman was wearing a black shirt, blue pants, black sneakers and glasses. She was also wearing a gold colored ring on her left hand. She appeared to be between 65 and 75 years old, according to authorities.
