An individual is in custody after the campus in New Britain was locked down Monday and students were urged to remain indoors and away from windows.

Lt. J. Paul Vance, a state police spokesman, says university police asked for assistance related to a report of a suspicious person.

University spokesman Mark McLaughlin declined to disclose the nature of the emergency. He says there is an emergency and police are urging officials to alert everyone on campus to get inside.

First responders appear to have focused their attention onto James Hall, a residence hall on the CCSU campus, according to NBC Connecticut. A school spokesperson told the station that the emergency is not an active shooter situation.

New Britain's mayor Tim O'Brien said that nobody had been injured, while NBC Connecticut reports that some students are being removed from James Hall.

New Britain police did not immediately respond to requests for comment and no further details were immediately available.

In a series of tweets, CCSU officials urged students and staff to seek shelter.

Christina Russo, a CCSU student, said on Twitter that professors and campus officers were urging students to get inside as quickly as possible.
