Deeds' condition steadily improved after being stabbed several times about the head and torso Tuesday morning, sending him to the hospital with serious injuries.

The stabbing happened during an altercation with his 24-year-old son, Gus. His son died of a gunshot wound shortly after the stabbing.

An investigation into the entire incident continues, but Virginia State Police have said that they believe the stabbing and shooting was part of an attempted murder-suicide.

In a tweet, Deeds said that the prayers and well wishes from everyone have been important to his recovery.
