(WJLA) - If there were any doubts that the housing market in the District of Columbia is still booming, one needs to look no further than statistics from this past September.

The Washington Business Journal reports that the average selling price for a home in the District was more than $809,000, which represents a 22-percent jump in value year-to-date.

The city's top financial leaders believe it's the first time that the mean price of a single family home has topped $800,000.

It's not much easier for renters in the District, as has been evidenced before. According to the National Low Income Housing Coalition, Washington is amongst the most expensive place to rent in the United States.

The report said that D.C. ranks 2nd nationwide, only behind Hawai'i, for the average price of of a two-bedroom apartment, which is about $1,506.
