(WJLA) - A 78-year-old Woodbridge man was found murdered inside his home Tuesday night, authorities say.
Charlie D. Adkins was found dead by a friend at about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday inside a home in the 3400 block of Caledonia Circle in Woodbridge. Prince William County Police say the man had unspecified upper body injuries.
Authorities say that Adkins had not been seen since Sunday and was pronounced dead at the scene. The person who discovered the body said that the door was unlocked when she arrived.
One of the Adkin's friends and wood carving partners, Frank Chergosky, said that the Woodbridge Senior Center was like a second home for him. He says the retired military and government contracting enjoyed that and shooting pool as hobbies.
"There is no reason why anyone would harm him," Chergosky said. "He will be missed. I'll miss him very much."
Tim Perry, a neighbor of the victim for nearly three decades, said he was in disbelieve when investigators knocked on his door to ask when he had last seen his neighbor.
"I'm totally lost for words," Perry said.
