Marion Christopher Barry guilty of drug possession and DWI
(WJLA) - Marion Christopher Barry, the son of former D.C. mayor and current D.C. Councilman Marion Barry, was found guilty Wednesday of driving while intoxicated and possession of marijuana.
Barry, who was arrested on Aug. 16 in Hampton, Va., was sentenced to 30 days in jail on each charge, but all of the time behind bars was suspended. Instead, Barry will spend two years on unsupervised probation.
His license was also suspended for a year and he'll pay several hundred dollars in fines and court costs.
The 33-year-old son of the prominent Washington politician was caught driving near the Hampton Coliseum in southern Virginia under the influence of drugs. Police say he also had marijuana in his car and on his person.
It wasn't the first time the younger Barry had a run-in with the law over drugs. In 2011, he was handed a 9-month suspended sentence after pleading guilty to possessing PCP and marijuana.
A third charge against Barry of possessing synthetic marijuana was not pursued by prosecutors.
